The Storyteller's Brain:

A Creative and Cerebral Portfolio

By Dessa Hayes

In a storyteller's brain, creativity and imagination are as plentiful as synaptic bulbs on nerve cells. They are the messages that neurons carry across each hemisphere, connecting every lobe, every gland. I am a firm believer that creativity is equal parts art and science. So, in my own storyteller's brain, there are no divisions between left and right dominance, rationality and emotion, or objectivity and subjectivity.

Today, we will begin a journey through my brain, exploring how my creativity and imagination affect everything I do. We will follow these electric sparks through the sturdy membrane of my frontal lobe (where my professional writings flourish) and into my temporal lobe, where they branch out into short stories, poems and plays. Next comes the parietal lobe, where these sparks will be translated into different languages. Finally, we will visit my occipital lobe, where they will form videos, photographs and other visual expressions.

Whether you're an employer, a student, a storyteller or simply a lover of words, I hope you enjoy this cerebral, creative adventure.
